Elmer Neufeld displaying at Niagara Antique Power Association Annual Heritage Display
Elmer Neufeld a Virgil resident will be displaying his Steam Engine at Niagara Antique Power Association's 38th Annual Heritage Display on July 2, 3rd and 4th. The 76-year-old retired mixed fruit farmer has put together this aged steam engine, corn stock and hay cutter and cracked corn maker from rusty old parts he picked up from a farm north of Toronto about 15 years ago. Mr. Neufeld shows off his intricate handiwork of copper tanks, wheels and conveyor belts with pride. This engine is powered by water and wood. Mr. Neufeld grew up on a farm in the prairies and used a similar steam-powered corn stock and hay cutter in his teen years. This steam engine would have been the kind of cutting edge technology used on farms more than a century ago. The same engine would have run woodworking shop machinery, shingle mills and printing presses. You need to come out and meet the man and watch the engine run. As you watch this steam engine run ask Elmer any questions you have about the operation of the steam engine because he will have the answers.
